NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, U.K. - June 10, 2014 - PRLog -- THE North’s Curry King is backing Prime Minister David Cameron’s call for the promotion of British Values…by getting behind England’s World cup squad.

Restaurant boss Avi Malik says David Cameron and Education Secretary Michael Gove are right to insist schoolchildren are taught about democracy, mutual respect and tolerance – key tenets of the British way of life.

And the top restaurateur is also calling on all nationalities living in England – and all curry houses – to cheer for the country this Saturday when Roy Hodgson’s men kick-off their World Cup campaign against Italy.

Mr Malik is manager of Raval Luxury Indian Restaurant, in Gateshead, named Best Restaurant in the North East at the prestigious British Curry Awards in London, an event at which David Cameron was guest of honour.

He said: “Sport unites people so I am calling on Indian restaurants throughout England to demonstrate their support for England during the World Cup.

“I am asking them to fly a flag or put up a poster. Anything really, as long as they make it clear they are behind the Three Lions.”

Mr Malik said: “For many of my staff, England is a land of opportunity. They understand that if they work hard, they are rewarded here.

“That is why I think this talk of instilling British values into schoolchildren makes so much sense.

“Whatever side of the political fence you are on, surely we can all agree that celebrating all that is good about the country we live in is a positive thing.

“The values Mr Cameron and Mr Gove are championing are, in fact, universal values of fair play, decency and integrity.

“British people hold them dear and those who have come to this country to make a better life for themselves should do too.

“Here at Raval, we are proud of our multi-cultural approach. We may be an Indian restaurant, but we currently have people from 10 different nationalities working for us.

“And you can be sure we will all be hoping for a Three Lions victory on Saturday night.”

He added: “I believe England could surprise everyone at this tournament. And if they actually win the World Cup, I will throw a party to end all parties at my restaurant.”
