Follow on Google News | Safelet, a wearable device for women, Launches an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign on June 10thSafelet is a bracelet that is connected to a smartphone and allows you to send out an emergency alert to your friends, family and the police with just one click.
By: Safelet Saskia Noort, bestselling author and victim of rape: “The safety of women and girls is everyone’s responsibility. Thanks to Safelet, we can feel safer and really act at the moment something happens to a friend, daughter, sister, co-worker or mother. A lifelong trauma can now be prevented. My daughter will get one for sure. Safelet would have helped me enormously 30 years ago.” The device is made as a slick fashion accessory and connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth BLE. A person can invite through social networks or an email as many people as she wants to join her “guardian network”. There is an option to include the whole “guardian community” in the network to get even more protection. “We want to create a world where there is always someone around to help you when you most need it.”(Herman Veenstra, a founder of Safelet). It also has an option to alert the closest law enforcement office. The bracelet, when activated, will show the exact location of the sender. It also has a microphone to record the events. Safelet is starting a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, the largest international platform supporting social impact projects, on June 10th. The company founders want to use the campaign not just to pre-sell the product, but to speak up about the problem of sexual violence. The bracelet will be available for early supporters on Indiegogo for $99 ($40 discount from the retail price). Recent studies provide horrifying data: almost 35% of all women, regardless of where they live, experience sexual violence. Research conducted in American colleges has discovered that 1 in 4 women had been victims of rape or attempted rape. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, every 2 minutes, another American is sexually assaulted. Safelet is created to help the women take control over their safety and to give an opportunity to everyone who cares to step up and join the guardian community. ### About: Everfind, the creator of Safelet, is a company with headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands and offices in Seattle, WA and Bucharest, Romania.
