Payton’s Promise Child Abuse Prevention Center Gears Up for 2014 Anti-Bullying

“In the past, I’ve been ridiculed because everyone else in my class had new school supplies for the new school year and I was barely prepared,” stated a rising 8th grade CMS Student.

PRLog - Jun. 9, 2014 - CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- In an effort to assist in change that, Payton’s Promise, CAPC will kick off its 2nd Annual Anti-Bullying Book Bag Drive with a Anti-Bullying Family Fun Day on June 7, 2014, from 2-6pm at Hornet’s Nest Park (Shelter #1) 6301 Beatties Ford Rd. Charlotte, NC 28216. The event will include bounce houses, dump tank, games, great giveaways and plenty of fun for the entire family.

Last year, Payton’s Promise, CAPC’s Charlotte and Greensboro locations collected over 2,000 book bags on its own and over 3,000 collectively with area businesses and organizations. This year, Payton’s Promise CAPC’s Salisbury location will join the effort to ensure all students are prepared for the upcoming school year. There were many beneficial partnerships and relationships built while helping the underprivileged youth in the community. “This year, the goal is to collect at least 10,000 book bags,” states Payton’s Promise CAPC Program Coordinator, Lee Brockington.

Since being able to assist so many children in preparation for the upcoming school year, the organization has heard countless testimonials from grateful students. Eboni Bryson, sophomore at North Carolina State University; Community Relations Liaison at Payton's Promise, CAPC recipient stated “As a student who was bullied herself, I know the importance of being prepared for the school year. Without the proper tools, a student will lack confidence and inevitably become a target of bullying.”

Outside of the kickoff event, the book bag drive finale event will take place at Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center on August 16, 2014 with other details TBA. Payton’s Promise, CAPC is humbly seeking support from local churches, sororities and fraternities to make this year’s drive a success.
