NEW YORK - June 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Addressing the many frustrations with the job seeking process, the The Black Public Relations Society of New York Chapter (BPRSNY) hosted a panel discussion entitled “Decoding Talent Acquisition” for its members and supporters at Burson-Marsteller.

With the industry’s top recruiters and influencers on the panel, the two-hour long event consisted of HR and recruitment experts who offered insight on various companies’ talent acquisition process and shared tips on standing out from the competition. Panelists included Scheron Brown, U.S. Talent Manager of Burson-Marsteller, Alan Cohen, Vice President of Talent Acquisition of MWW, Sandy Charet, President and Senior Recruiter for Public Relations, Corporate Communications and Richard Spector, Senior Manager of Corporate Development and Industry Partnerships of PRSA.  Moderated by Vanessa Edwards-El, CMP, The Event Strategist, BPRSNY Events Committee Chair.

Through engaging conversation with attendees, the panelists decoded the mystery ofthe online resume filter; shed light on how to maximize talent sourcing technology; and shared techniques to identify their value proposition and craft creative ways to make a lasting impression on potential employers.

“As a multicultural professional organization, it is our goal to prepare our members to become fully equipped leaders that will add a different perspective to our ever evolving industry.  Events like this not only prepare our members for the reality of the competitive hiring process, but show top organizations that there are candidates of color who are ready and willing to work for great organizations such as those featured on our panel” said Kisha Barton, BPRSNY President.

The event ended with a session of speed networking and resume review for attendees who wanted honest career advice and an experienced eye to take a closer look at their resumes. Attendees agreed that the most memorable quote of the evening came from BPRSNY Board member Richard Spector. “Take the resume out of your resume. It should tell a story of where and how you contributed and where you’re looking to go”.

As the evening concluded, attendees and panelists alike witnessed the powerful effects of BPRSNY’s events and its purposeful tagline of “Educate, Engage, Empower”.
