Bookworm™ Children's Tabletop Game, Created By An 11-year-old, Now Live On Kickstarter

Strong support from industry professionals for this fun, educational “novel” game!

WINCHESTER, Mass. - June 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Pickle Hopped Games is pleased to announce the launch of our Kickstarter campaign for Bookworm™, the unique, fun, educational children's tabletop game.

Designed for two or more players old enough to read, Bookworm is the creation of Dolly Pickelhaupt, an 11-year old girl from Massachusetts.  Dolly had the idea for the game when her grandfather said there are no good games about books.  As part of her elementary school's mentor program, Dolly’s father, the founder of Pickle Hopped Games, helped her further develop the idea and playtest prototypes.  Feedback on the game from children, adults, professional game makers, and academics has been so positive that we decided to partner with this young entrepreneur to launch a Kickstarter and bring her game to life.

“Dolly has invented a surprisingly fun game of strategic questions and answers that encourages young players to read some of the world’s classic stories.  It’s a game both children and their parents can get excited about,” says Chuck Pickelhaupt, founder of Pickle Hopped Games.

The objective of the game is to find the Bookworm hidden by the Librarian somewhere in a bookshelf of over 30 books.  Players try to name the right title in the least number of guesses by asking Yes or No questions about which book is hiding the Bookworm.  With each question and answer, books are removed from the shelves, narrowing the choices until the Bookworm is found.

With a few simple rules, three shelves, four Bookworms, over 60 titles to pick from, and player questions limited only by your imagination, no two games will ever be the same!

"Dolly's idea is a very well developed idea for someone of any age," said Shari Spiro, the founder and president of AdMagic, printer of Cards Against Humanity and other tabletop games. "I was very impressed by it. I would encourage more kids to come up with game ideas because there's no one better to create a kid's game than a kid. Kids know what they like."

Bookworm received media attention with an article in the Winchester Star newspaper on May 23  (http://winchester.wickedlocal.com/article/20140523/NEWS/1...).  The game’s Kickstarter campaign was chosen as one of Kickstarter’s “Staff Picks” and has raised over $3,000 toward its goal of $6,500.  The campaign runs through Sunday, June 15, backer rewards start at just $1, and copies of the game when published are just $25.  More information, including multiple videos and images are available at: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/picklehopped/bookworm....
