BURNS HARBOR, Ind. - June 6, 2014 - PRLog -- It gives Lake Shore Ford great excitement to announce that Ford is evening the automotive playing field and bringing adaptive steering to their entry-level vehicles as early as 2015.

While models like the 2014 Ford Focus are already some of the best-equipped small cars on the road today, the next model year looks to make them even more competitive by adding this precision technology into the mix.

Collaborating with Takata, a Japanese company with over 80 years of precision engineering experience, Ford has developed a practical and affordable adaptive steering system they will install into their vehicles' wheel hub housings.

The most noticeable effect of an adaptive steering system is a reduction in the number of turns of the wheel a driver has to make. For drivers who prefer the old style of steering, the system will be able to be switched off and on as desired.

The adaptive steering, while practical at low speeds, is not limited to any speed range, and drivers who are looking to get the most out of their vehicle—perhaps taking it to the track—will be able to take advantage of adaptive steering at high speeds as well.

In most vehicles, the ratio of wheel turn to steering wheel turn is fixed, but the adaptive steering system changes that, making it far easier and more comfortable to drive than without the system. There have yet to be any official announcements on which new Ford vehicles drivers can expect to see this new design.

In the meantime, readers are encourage to explore many of the other high-tech features Ford is making available on their models, from touchscreen infotainment systems like MyFord Touch to Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity to standardized rearview cameras in some models.

To learn more about the future of Ford's offerings and their current vehicle lineup, readers have been asked to contact Lake Shore Ford in Burns Harbor. Their showroom features new Ford vehicles and a variety of used models, and they feature convenient on-site auto financing and service as well.
