appug.com offers new beacon messaging platform for Bluetooth beacons

June 5, 2014 - PRLog -- The German start-up company "appug.com" offers a new international (i)Beacon registry and messaging platform for Bluetooth beacons. Bluetooth beacons based on the new Bluetooth LE standard have lately been promoted by both "iBeacon" activities of Apple, Inc. and fancy beacons manufactured by American-Polish pioneer Estimote.com.

When approaching a Bluetooth beacon registered at appug, messages or other web content will be loaded to a customer's smartphone. As an alternative to Bluetooth beacons, appug.com also supports other beacon technologies, especially "QR beacons" that provide almost the same functionality after QR scanning.

Both Bluetooth and QR beacons can be used by businesses to bridge the gap between the real and digital world and provide customers with messages directly linked to physical places.

appug.com's concept is different from other beacon message providers. Messages not only come to a customer's device when it's close to a beacon, if the customer opts-in, "follow-up" messages can be subscribed without personal registration, that come via the Internet, like newsletters.

appug messages from QR beacons can be received on any mobile device with an HTML 5 capable web browser and standard QR scanner. In order to get messages linked to Bluetooth beacons, the free appug app is required, that is currently only available for Android. This free app also includes a QR beacon scanner and manages all received messages. Follow-up messages can be pushed to the free appug app, or retrieved from the web with a standard browser.

Recognizing the importance of privacy, all messages are received anonymously. A personal registration is only required for publishers, not for recipients. International patents are pending.

The name appug is derived from appug's mascot and logo, an orange pug. The private investors behind appug.com are not named. CEO and co-founder of appug.com is former manager and management consultant Dr. Juergen K. Lang, whose digital matrix code franking marks can be found on millions of letters every day, across Europe.

Exceptionally, appug has not been founded in Berlin, but at the former nuclear research center in Bergisch Gladbach ((was in the list of German cities prior to Berlin ;-))
