Acupuncture Training and Certification

June 5, 2014 - PRLog -- Acupuncture was based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. The general theory of acupuncture is based on the premise that there are patterns of energy flow through the body that are essential for health. Traditional acupuncturists understand health in terms of a vital force of energy called Qi which circulates between the organs along channels called meridians. The traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture practitioner seeks to identify the nature of any imbalance in Qi, and then selects the appropriate acupuncture points from among approximately 360 points distributed along the meridians.

ITCM (The Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine), is Canada’s oldest established school of Chinese Medicine. It is founded in 1970 in the city of Toronto by Dr. David Lam. Dr. Lam is one of the first doctors from China to teach Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Canada and he has been the Dean of ITCM for more than forty years. The ITCM are providing a 10-course Acupuncture Training series for Physiotherapists, Massage Therapists, Chiropractors, Doctors, Naturopaths, Chiropodists, Occupational Therapists, Dentists and Nurses from all over Canada. The whole Acupuncture Program is consists of 10 classes over a 12 month period. The courses are generally one month apart throughout the year, and not provided in the months of July and August. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of Acupuncture under their scope of practice.

The Acupuncture courses are taught by a certified Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner. We have offered a variety of educational programs in the past, ranging from full Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Courses whereby the students become a Certified Acupuncturist upon successful completion, to Acupuncture for Musculoskeletal Conditions for Healthcare Professionals.

Through our mentorship program we ensure continued learning via monthly newsletters which contain case studies and research articles, along with the encouragement to email or call us any time you have a question regarding acupuncture or a case you may have. We also have a special online membership educational section that is included in the cost of the full program.
