OMAHA, Neb. - June 5, 2014 - PRLog -- Vocalist and Mt. Pleasant, Iowa native, Mary Heaton Carrick, will return to her hometown to bring an evening of music to the Iowa Wesleyan Chapel Auditorium on June 7.  The 7 p.m. concert comes on the heels of her newly released solo album, “Let’s Fly”, a collection of reimagined classic and contemporary songs, ranging from great American standards, jazz, musical theater, and more.

Carrick will perform with pianist J. Gawf, resident music director of Opera Omaha and the artistic producer of “Let’s Fly”.  The program will feature songs from the album and other selections, including music by Cole Porter, Leonard Cohen, Harold Arlen, Barry Manilow, Hank Williams, Stephen Schwartz, Dolly Parton, and other songwriters.

“Let’s Fly” is the first recording for Carrick, who performs professionally across the Midwest and with arts organizations and venues surrounding Omaha, NE, where she resides, including Opera Omaha, the Omaha Symphony, Rose Theater, and the Holland Performing Arts Center, among others.   She is the daughter of Dave and Carmen Heaton of Mt. Pleasant and a graduate of Mt. Pleasant Community High School.

“It has been an exciting year with the album and with all of the preparation and work that it’s entailed.  It’s really a dream come true,” said Carrick.  “I’m thrilled to be bringing this special concert to my hometown and to the Chapel Auditorium on the IWC campus.  I spent a great deal of time there when I was growing up, with community theater and many other activities.  To sing in this beautifully renovated hall is going to be such a treat.”

Carrick said listeners can expect a program with similar variety as her album, which was released on May 13 followed by a launch performance in Omaha.  “From the beginning I wanted to offer a recording that represents me as a singer – encompassing my broad tastes in music and my passion for storytelling through song.  I approach my live performances in very much the same way – authentically and with music that spans many genres and styles.”

Tickets for the concert are $35 and may be purchased at Brown’s Shoe Fit and the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance Office.  Proceeds will benefit the restoration of the historic Union Block Building in Mt. Pleasant.

During her visit, Carrick will also hold a CD signing on June 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. at de Brito Baking Bistro in Mt. Pleasant.  “Let’s Fly” is being carried by Hy-Vee Drugstore in Mt. Pleasant and by Weird Harold’s in Burlington, Iowa.  It’s also available online through Amazon.com, iTunes, CDBaby.com and through Carrick’s website, marycarrick.com.
