4th Annual Miller Family YMCA July 4th Festival, Parade, 5K/10K Run/Walk & Car Show

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. - June 3, 2014 - PRLog -- The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park is hosting a July 4 5K/10K Run/Walk and a free family festival, parade and car show.

         A community all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast is from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the car show from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Awards will be given to winners of the “Top 10 Pick” and “Best in Show.”

         The Miller Y Independence Day 5k/10k Run/Walk starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Y (320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park).Runners and walkers will wind their way around the Dos Vientos neighborhood and finish back at the Y. The walk is family and stroller-friendly. Awards will be handed out to winners in each age category.

         Free live entertainment, a kids' zone and family activities begin a 9:00 a.m. with a patriotic Fourth of July parade sponsored by the Dos Vientos Homeowners Association at 10:00 a.m. The parade begins at the Dos Vientos Community Center (4801 Borchard Rd.) and ends at the Y.

         "The Independence Day 5k/10k is an annual fundraiser benefitting the Miller YMCA and its members," says Katie Beck, the Miller Y's executive director. "We serve over 6,000 Newbury Park and Conejo Valley residents each year. The proceeds from the run/walk and care show go towards our financial assistance program that enables youth and families to take part in healthy living and youth development programs that they would not otherwise be able to afford."

         All run/walk registrations include a t-shirt (while supplies last) and pancake breakfast. Online registration starts at $30 per person and $70 per family (immediate family only). Registration is also available on July 3 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Road Runner Sports (1714 Newbury Park, 805-372-1415) and at the Y on event day beginning at 6:30 a.m. (higher registration costs on event day).
