Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County Artists' Work Exhibited at CHOMP

MONTEREY, Calif. - June 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Artwork by more than 30 members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) will be displayed during the Club’s annual Marti Mulford Youth Arts Exhibit, from June 13 to July 14, 2014.

The artwork will be displayed at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP), which is sponsoring the exhibit in partnership with BGCMC and the Arts Council of Monterey County. The artists will be honored at a reception and awards ceremony on June 13.

BGCMC has exhibited its young artists’ work for more than a dozen years. In 2013, the art exhibit was renamed in honor of Marti Mulford, a ceramic artist who had a passion for art and nurturing the creativity of youth. Mulford passed away in 2012. Her legacy included a bequest to BGGMC to establish an endowment for the exhibit and awards. Mulford also left a bequest to Community Hospital to support an internship program for art students to learn to catalog artwork, mount installations, and work with framers and conservators. Interns from the program installed the BGCMC exhibit.

“Our artists are excited to be featured in this special exhibit at Community Hospital,” shared Marissa Serna, BGCMC’s Impact Specialist for Arts.  “This exhibit is a culmination of a year’s worth of hard work, and the diverse pieces reflect the talent, ingenuity and dedication of the youth in our community.”

Artists range in age from 6-18 but are mostly 9-12 years old. They participate in a comprehensive arts program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County that includes exposure to and training in various media. Members produce work ranging from crayon drawings to elaborate digital photography to fine arts projects. The exhibit will include selections that were submitted to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Fine Arts Regional Competition this past March; one of those pieces has been chosen from the 781 entries to move forward to BGCA’s National Competition.

The artwork will be on display on the main level at Community Hospital through July 14.
