Easter Seals Florida Invites Families to Learn About McKay Scholarships

July 3rd Deadline for McKay Scholarships for Students with Disabilities

PRLog - Jun. 3, 2014 - FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Florida's school choice programs ensure that no child will be left behind by allowing parents to choose the best educational setting—public or private—for their child. Easter Seals Florida accepts the McKay Scholarships for Students with Disabilities Program, which provided more than 26,000 Florida students with special needs the opportunity to attend a participating private school during the 2012-13 school year.

A child qualifies for the McKay Scholarship if he or she has a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Accommodation Plan and has attended Florida public school for an entire school year.   The next deadline for intent filing for the McKay Scholarship is July 3, 2014 for students enrolling in fall 2014.

The Easter Seals Lily Academies are K-12 schools in Fort Myers and Naples for children with autism and related disabilities.  The Lily Academies offer small group instruction with low student-to-teacher ratios, state-certified special educators, behavioral oversight and support from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, traditional and functional academic curriculums and community immersion for skill building and transition planning.

Easter Seals is offering appointments for families to visit the schools and to learn more about their services, and how to qualify and apply for McKay Scholarships.

“Easter Seals is proud to provide an alternative for families seeking the best education for their children with autism,” said Robyn DuCharme, Vice President of Programs, Easter Seals Florida.  “Our schools incorporate individualized instruction based on academic standards and the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to ensure an environment that maximizes each student's potential for learning and independence.”
