Follow on Google News | Remus Horse Sanctuary Launch Fundraising Appeal For PippaRemus Horse Sanctuary based in Essex has launched an appeal to raise the funds for an operation to save the site of one of it's mares, called Pippa.
By: Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary After losing sight in both eyes to cataracts during the autumn of last year, Pippa successfully underwent surgery on one eye and, after a few months, was able to go back into the paddocks. She loved her new life and found a boyfriend in Dickie – a most unlikely partnership! The Animal Health Trust Ophthalmologists immediately went to see her and the decision was made to try surgery on her other eye. This took place just 6 weeks ago and has been a total success. Thankfully, Pippa coped wonderfully with this second operation, and is enjoying having her sight back again. She now has a Lavage System fitted, which allows the team to feed the eye drops directly into her eye without stressing her. Remus will need to do this for another 4 weeks before she can go back out into the paddocks, but she is already going out in the barn with Dickie during the day. Pippa has been with Remus for 4 years when her owners could no longer care for her. Shehad previously been used as a tease mare. “We were all devastated for her, as she had been enjoying her new life so much and it seemed so cruel to be snatched away from her”, says founder, Sue Burton. If you would like to donate to the appeal, please visit the Remus website at www.remussanctuary.org or contact Sue Burton on tel: 01277 356191. End
