TIMESCAPES: New work by Constance McBride at eye lounge in Phoenix

PHOENIX - June 3, 2014 - PRLog -- TIMESCAPES will open on Third Friday, June 20th and run until Sunday, July 13th. Receptions will be held on Third Friday June 20th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and First Friday, July 4th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The gallery is located at 419 East Roosevelt St. and is open on Friday's from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday's from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday's from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. During this exhibition, the gallery will also open by appointment (email the artist).

McBride, a painter and sculptor, is featuring a new series of pastels on paper along with new sculptured clay figures. Aging has been an ongoing theme in her work beginning with pastels she started creating in 2009 and in an ongoing project titled The Lonely Girls (clay busts depicting women with Alzheimer's disease).

The works in this show depict aging bodies as landscapes filled with rolling curves, peaks and valleys. "I'm a woman living in a youth-obsessed culture," she says, "I'm not sure how we went from respecting and admiring our elders to patronizing or ignoring them but I find it appalling. We used to see the beauty of an older person's countenance, now it's regarded as unattractive and in need of fixing. I want to expose the beauty of mature human beings in my work."
