Science is everywhere these days...including social media

National day camp launches photo contest to teach kids about ubiquity of science
By: Destination Science

June 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Rockland County, NY: Science, technology, engineering, and math are critical to our country's future. Each day, more than 350 million photos are posted on Facebook. What does one fact have to do with the other?

Destination Science, a not-for-profit camp with more than 130 locations and over 1,000 social media followers, has combined these two facts to educate, entertain, and reward families -- launching a contest called "EG is Everywhere," in which parents can enter to win a free week of camp for their child by posting a picture of the camp mascot (a ball of energy) on Fcebook, Twitter, or Instagram, with the hashtag #EGContest2014

"We wanted to engage our social media fans and create new ways for kids to learn about science," says Kathy Heraghty, one of the directors of Destination Science. "What better way than to use technology?"

The company used a platform called WooBox to create the contest, which is being promoted through social media as well as conventional media.

EG is Destination Science’s power-packed, fun-filled science mascot. Contest participants are being encouraged to photograph EG anywhere and everywhere they find science. After submitting their photo via woobox or with the hashtag #EGContest2014, along with a brief caption about the science connection, they will automatically be entered to win a free week of camp -- $300 value!

Destination Science brings science to life as kids become mad scientists, brave biologists and techno wizards who will experiment, build and make messes in the pursuit of science at 12 new camp locations in NY and NJ this summer.

New for 2014, Destination Science has developed three new exciting programs: Robot Mania &Mysterious Techno Detectives, Astronaut Training… Moon Mission 2014, and Rocking Gizmos & Rolling Gadgets. Back by popular demand, campers will have the opportunity to participate in Curious Creatures & The Grossology Zone. In additions to new NY and NJ locations, Destination Science also has successful camps in California, Florida, Washington State, Texas, and Long Island.
