BELLEVUE, Wash. - June 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Hypersecu takes things up a notch in security for BYOD offering their full line of mobile smart card readers.  These readers include their iR301 mobile smart card reader with the 30 pin and lightening interface for iPhone and iPad, the new iPad case smart card readers, iPadmini case smart card reader, bR301 the Bluetooth smart card reader and Audiopass the audio jack interface PKI token for mobile devices

How is it more secure?  Using a certificate to authenticate creates a more secure environment by encrypting and decrypting information that is being passed.  This allows for authentication of the user, encrypted communication and signing off on documents.  The certificate can be stored a few ways; in many cases it’s a soft cert, stored on your device.  A soft certificate is better but a certificate stored on a card or token creates a substantially more secure environment for the user.

About the soft certificate you are using to authenticate

The soft certificate is stored on the device, for example on a tablet or PC.  Since it is on the device it is accessible to the Internet, hackers and threats.  This potentially could be accessed and used by hackers without your knowledge.  As the certificate is on the device that is being authenticated it is one environment to hack.  Since a tablet is generally on 24/7 this leaves the hacker plenty of time to access the device without your knowledge.  This also applies to traditional PCs, if you store the soft cert to encrypt emails, sign documents and authenticate the soft cert could be potentially accessed by hackers to do as they wish with your certificate.  This can be extremely troubling when considering the ramifications of the certificate usage.  If the hacker was to use the certificate to sign contracts, access highly sensitive information, read encrypted emails all of these could potentially cause harm to the organization.  Using a PIN can help, but hackers today have many ways to obtain your PIN.  But the most troubling aspect is if the hacker is able to export the certificate, then they would have access to use the certificate at any time.

Why is hardware a more secure option?

A certificate stored on a secure module on a card or token gives the user more control of when the certificate is used, prevents the certificate from being exported as the certificate can not be exported from the card/token and creates a superior level of security.  Using the card or token the user is using traditional 2-factor authentication, something you have and something you know.  The certificate is only accessed and used at the discretion of the user.

Already using certificate-based cards in your organization?

If so then the new line of smart card readers fits perfect into your BYOD strategy.  Working with Hypersecu they can offer products to allow your employees to authenticate on their personal devices with the security guards you require.

Not using certificate based cards?

Hypersecu can offer flexible options of setting us a secure environment for your orgainziation using cards and tokens to offer superior level of security.

Is this for you?  When we asked the senior sales manager at Hypersecu this is what he had to say,  “Well, it depends, how important is the information you are protecting?  And what is the benefit of allowing your employees to access this data on their personal devices?  If your information is of high value, if it is stolen and used by the competition and will create a loss, if you want to keep all company secrets a secret, this is up to the organization and how much value they place on that information.  Organizations also need to consider the benefit of mobile employees, which creates higher productivity, higher profit margins and happier employees.  I would suggest this for vital information, purchase information, project details, designs, and information that holds high value to the organization and have the requirement for BYOD, which is very common in the work place.  If you place a high value on your information this is for you.”
