Swim For Your Life at Shrewsbury Health And Racquet Club

PRLog - Jun. 2, 2014 - SHREWSBURY, Mass. -- Did you know that 50% of American’s can’t swim?  Here at SHARC, swimming is considered a life skill and a sport that can be enjoyed at all ages and abilities! Rather than teaching children, tweens, and adults how to keep afloat, we provide our members with the conditioning to become a strong and confident swimmer. What better way than to keep the stress off your joints than by making a splash? With competitive teams, aerobic classes as well as private lessons, SHARC finds it important to build a successful foundation in order to be able to fully enjoy and benefit from swimming. Our instructors are trained lifeguards as well as First Aid and CPR Certified so that you are receiving precise instruction that will not only shape you into a strong swimmer but achieve a long list of health benefits.   Swimming helps to improve cardiovascular performance, lower cholesterol levels, and enhance cognitive brain function, all while toning muscles!

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson

It is important to understand that there is always a risk to consider with swimming, as without the proper supervision or instruction, it can be very dangerous. This is why at SHARC we find it so important to make sure that we are teaching everyone from children to seniors how to feel confident in the water. Did you know that of the 50% of American’s that can swim would not be able to pass a First Aid swimming test?  We teach you how to swim, not how to not drown. In fact, this summer SHARC is participating in The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson where waterparks, pools and other aquatic facilities all over the world come together to teach the importance of water safety!

SHARC Special Swimmers

Our dedicated instructors understand that everyone learns differently and at different paces. Special Swimmers is a new program at SHARC that will strive to provide a positive, welcoming, fun atmosphere for those with special needs.  We want these children to come learn and explore the wonderful properties of the water in a safe nurturing environment.  Here at SHARC a swim instructor will work with all special needs children ages 4-17 in private and semi-private lessons on your schedule.  We want to help ensure that each child who swims with us has the best experience possible; to do this we will make an individual lesson plan for each child.

Here are some thoughts we consider when creating a customized lesson plan:

How does the child communicate? Verbal?
How do we best motivate the child (music, toys, etc.) to help get the child to do    something he/she may not want to do?
What has been the past swimming experience?
Does the child like water?
What are both the child and parent’s goals for these lessons?

Using our experience, visual aids, props, music, games and/or toys to aid us in addressing problems like helping you child learn how to control their body, to prevent excessive water drinking, help get over the dislike of being on their back, and not wanting to go under the water.  This program will not only focus on teaching swimming skills, but we will also focus on teaching lifesaving safety skills as well.

All of our swim instructors are Lifeguards as well as First Aid and CPR Certified. Looking to make a splash? Learn more about all of SHARC’s aquatic programs, lessons and fitness classes at http://www.shrewsburyclub.com/sharc-aquatics or call us at 508-845-1000
