Girl Meets Boy Meets Tabloids: A Contemporary Romance by Kathryn Ascher

Romance novelist Kathryn Ascher plunges into the center of one such celebrity love affair in her new book, What It Takes (BQB Publishing, 2014).

“Tabloids invade the private lives of celebrities or lift them so high in esteem that we tend to forget they are real people,” says Ascher. “I don't feel that it’s my business to know who is sleeping with whom, who’s pregnant, who’s breaking up, or who’s in rehab. These would be very personal issues for anyone else, and if I were in their shoes, I would probably feel a lot like [my protagonist] does… I wouldn’t want the world to know.”

Hailed as “a beautifully intense story of love and trust” by Beth Colquitt for NetGalley, What It Takes follows a small town Virginia girl who finally gets her big break in Hollywood only to be a victim of blackmail and hungry paparazzi. Born and raised in Virginia, Kathryn Ascher tried her hand at poetry and fiction in high school, but put it all aside when she went to college. After graduating with her degree in communications, she married her college sweetheart and went to work for a local radio station. It wasn’t until after the birth of her third child and a blind book exchange that Kathryn decided to give writing another try. When she picked up her first romance novel, she immediately knew that was the genre for her.

A former resident of Roanoke, Virginia, Kathryn now resides with her husband and three children in Land O’ Lakes, Florida.
