- Jun. 2, 2014 - PHILADELPHIA --
The Raven Lounge has a few year history of packing a bunch of diverse kids into a couple rooms and making them dance their tails off. With the explosion of all genres of what some deem "EDM", the environment that Raven Lounge has built is more popular than ever before. At least two weekends a month young adults from all over the city come together for some sort of event, whether it be a Diplo and Calvin Harris concert at Festival Pier or a Twurkaholics party at a warehouse in North Philly. The electronic music scene is exploding in this city but there still seems to be a lack of middle ground. An event or venue where the young kids who want to rage all night can hear the music they enjoy but the ones who are just looking for a drink and good company can also be comfortable. The Raven Lounge has always been one of the venues in the city where that is actually possible. The only other barrier to be broken is entering a club/lounge to hear nothing but Top 40 or cookie cutter style dance music. After all, thats what the people that own the venues want, right? Wrong. The popularity of EDM has also left the scene oversatturated with artists mimicking what others did the week before. Electronic music as a whole, however, is virtually endless in regards to creativity. Making popular music has always been a concern to philly duo, The Program., but being ecelectic with their song selection has never been an issue. They seem to take a lot of pride in the fact that they can not be labeled with a single genre. That is something that Philadelphians as a whole seem to take pride in, diversity. Starting Friday June 6th, The Program. hopes to embody the spirit of the city with their new monthly EDM Night. There is an extreme amount of potential for growth in the Philly electronic music scene, hopefully this new event can be the start of something cool. Not to mention, its a FREE event. There is no cover at Raven Lounge.
Message from The Program. : "Are you unhappy with your night life? Do you like to dance but don't like to fist pump? Do you enjoy partying but don't like to rage? Then come out to The Raven Lounge on June 6th for a Frist Friday EDM Night with us and take part in a new style of dance party in the heart of Center City. You won't hear Tiesto here! Our sets will include everything from Electronica to Electro Swing, Deep House to Hip-Hop and all stops in-between, all while you drink good beer and enjoy the brotherly love."
More on The Program. :
We are "The Program.", an electronic production duo from South Jersey / Philly. "The Program." consists of Eric Boss (eBoss) and Scott Tennett (STiXX). The Program frequently performs around the Philadelphia and South Jersey area, both as DJ sets and production sets.
Eric Boss (eBoss) comes from a percussion background. While In high school, Boss got into hip-hop music and began MCing. After attending audio engineering school, he later began to produce and eventually over the last year has put down the mic to focus on strictly producing.
Scott Tennett (STiXX) on the other hand comes directly from an EDM background. He is a self-taught producer with a very keen ear and an expertise in sound design. Although heavily influenced by Hip-Hop music as well, every release from STiXX has been some style of EDM. From Dubstep to House music and everything in between, STiXX, like other younger up and coming producers and DJs, has been able to perfect more than one subgenre in the EDM scene.
