Oakland, CA- “All that glitters is not gold,” as the old saying goes; and there’s one company that is hosting a conference to make sure athletes are empowered with the knowledge to help ensure they know how to maximize the financial potential of the limited life span of their challenging and demanding professional careers.  Pro Athlete Business Group (PABG) is hosting a two-day conference, Friday, May 30th and Saturday, May 31st at the Hilton Hotel Oakland Airport with the goal to empower athletes to create successful business opportunities after their professional career.

“We’re hosting the PABG Franchise and Investor Conference in Oakland to help current and former professional athletes initiate successful strategies to sustain them beyond their very short-lived and physically demanding careers,” said Anthony Simmons, Executive Director, Pro Athlete Business Group.  “The salaries of professional athletes can appear to be more than sufficient, but without adequate financial planning, when stretched over a lifetime and juxtaposed against the many debilitating injuries they receive, those seemingly large salaries too often have diminishing returns.”

The two-day conference will provide professional athletes and members of the sports industry an opportunity to examine the benefit of franchises as a part of their financial strategy.  It will include workshops and speakers including Educator, Lecturer, and Business Consultant, Reginald “Reggie” Grant, former New York Jets Defensive Back (May 30), Kellen B. Winslow Sr., one of the greatest Tight Ends in NFL history, Pro Football Hall of Famer and former San Diego Charger and newly appointed Athletic Director at Florida A & M University (Keynote Speaker May 31) and Psychologist, Author, Television Host, Dr. Brenda Wade (Breakfast Networking, May 31).

According to Sports Illustrated, a staggering 82%of former NFL players are financially stressed or bankrupt within three years after retiring and 60%of NBA players are in the same boat within a similar timeframe. Although salaries have been raised steadily for the last three decades, when it comes to finances, athletes’ performance scores for successful money management are astonishingly low.

“Professional athletes are champions in the arena of sports,” said Dr. Joseph Bryant Jr., Life Coach and Advisor for Pro Athletes Business Group and Rainbow P.U.S.H. Bay Area Director. “We are working to make sure that they are winners in life just as they are winners on the field.”
