CoreCHI™ - Core Certification for Interpreters of ALL Languages

By:

WASHINGTON - May 30, 2014 - PRLog -- As innovators and leaders in the healthcare interpreter industry, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) has shaped and molded a valid and credible path for healthcare interpreters all over the country.  We are a continuous improvement organization and respond to our industry’s needs and demands.

At the beginning of 2014, the Commission analyzed data and market feedback telling us that the Associate Healthcare Interpreter™ (AHI™) credential was, in fact, a core professional certification on par with core or generalist certifications in other professions. Our consultations with two leading national psychometricians confirmed this as well.

The Commissioners have decided to change the name of the AHI credential to the Core Certification Healthcare Interpreter™ (CoreCHI™), effective immediately.

CoreCHI is THE one certification every interpreter of every language needs to have and can have today.
This certification tests medical interpreters of any language on the core professional knowledge as well as critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and cultural responsiveness skills needed to perform the interpreter’s duties in any healthcare setting.

CoreCHI certification also allows all hospitals, health systems, and health care providers to efficiently show their compliance with The Joint Commission’s interpreter qualifications requirement and National CLAS Standard 7 today.

With CoreCHI, any medical interpreter can become certified without waiting for the oral performance examination being developed for their language.  In the next couple of months, CCHI will complete all necessary updates related to the CoreCHI name change, including documentation for the current AHI certificants. Follow our updates on our website and social media.

CCHI’s specialty certification – the Certified Healthcare Interpreter™ (CHI™) – provides a language-specific assessment of the interpreter’s performance skills and is currently available for Arabic, Spanish and Mandarin interpreters.  Interpreters of these languages cannot stop their certification process at the CoreCHI level; they must pass a language-specific oral performance exam to attain the CHI certification.

The CoreCHI examination is a multiple choice exam in English, available year-around, and delivered online in a secure test center environment in all 50 states of the U.S. and in Canada.  To apply for your CoreCHI certification today, please visit our website at http://www.cchicertification.org/healthcare-interpreters/healthcare-interpreters.
