Johnson was one of 40 chosen from about 300 candidates, according to the Phoenix Business Journal. Celebrating its 14th year, the annual award is given to 40 individuals under the age of 40 who are making major strides in their careers and having a positive impact on their communities. The Phoenix Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 event has become the region’s premier award program spotlighting young professionals. Johnson will be honored, along with the 39 other recipients, during an awards reception at the Phoenix Theatre on Thursday, June 19.
Johnson joined Snell & Wilmer as associate in 2006 and was elected to partner in 2010. He is a co-chair of the firm’s International Industry Group. Over the years, he has developed an extensive government relations practice and believes that Arizona can successfully compete for international trade opportunities. In addition to regularly speaking and publishing articles related to government relations, he hosts annual forums that bring together community leaders to discuss these opportunities. He is an active participant in Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC), where he is an Ambassador and serves on the International Leadership Committee, and the Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations, where he is on the Board of Directors and is the Membership Chair. He is also a member of the Steering Committee for the Global Cities Initiative, which is sponsored by GPEC and the City of Phoenix. Johnson is the editor of Doing Business in Arizona, a book designed to serve as a guide for those thinking of locating a business in Arizona. He is also a Judge Pro Tem for the Maricopa County Superior Court and provides pro bono services to the Volunteer Lawyers Program.
Johnson graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctorate, University of San Diego with a Master of International Laws, University of Maryland, University College with a Master of International Management, and he attended the Naval War College and The Hague Academy of International Law (Peace Palace). During law school, he accepted a commission with the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, initially serving as an attorney for the Commander, Navy Region Southwest. He would later serve overseas in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He ended his service at JAG Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he served with a select group of judge advocates representing the Navy in high profile cases around the country. For his service, Johnson received three Navy Commendation Medals and two Navy Achievement Medals.
