Autism Society Georgia Announces New Executive Director

ATLANTA - May 29, 2014 - PRLog -- The Autism Society Georgia Affiliate (ASGa), announces the appointment of Ray Johnson as its new Executive Director. Johnson will lead the organization’s rebranding initiative, which includes working with the new board of directors to implement a statewide services strategy and oversee Autism Society Georgia’s operations, programs, fundraising, marketing and volunteer efforts.

"Having Ray assume the executive leadership is a critical milestone that we celebrate with state, local and national stakeholders in the autism community.  It reflects the culmination of little over a year-long effort working with those stakeholders to take a hard look at what the Autism Society's role in this state should be and how we should serve the over 100,000 individuals estimated to have autism spectrum disorders in Georgia.  What resulted is our new statewide mission, partnership, and strategic plan for the Autism Society Georgia Affiliate. It is going to take an exceptional leader to move our organization forward and I’m confident we found that leader in Ray,” stated Gailynn Gluth, Chairman Board of Directors.

As a business development leader and executive with over twenty-five (25) years of experience, Johnson has led the growth of technology companies that include the launch, expansion and turnaround of start-ups, early stage and mid-size businesses as well as the growth and capture of new markets for established global leaders like AT&T Wireless, AT&T and Newell Rubbermaid. Through his service and volunteer work, he made the decision to transition his career to one that would provide him the opportunity to give back and serve others through a non-profit charitable organization. “This is my career second half. It’s an exciting time for the Autism Society Georgia. I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead it,” said Johnson. “Georgia is uniquely positioned to be the leader in autism research, support and service delivery to individuals, families, communities and educators. We have incredible resources through the CDC, Marcus Autism Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Emory Autism Center, Georgia State Center for Leadership in Disability, Georgia Tech and other organizations focused on support of the autism community. By coordinating and leveraging these great resources, the Autism Society Georgia can be the leading voice and resource of the entire autism community in services, support, education, research and advocacy. We are committed to meaningful participation and self-determination in all aspects of life for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.”

Johnson holds a BS in Business Administration with concentrations in Computer Science and Marketing from Boston College. He resides in Roswell, GA with his wife and three (3) children. His desire and passion to make a difference through Autism Society Georgia is also fueled by a personal connection to autism through his 19 year old niece who is on the spectrum.
