Amani Public Charter School and Pelham Middle School

The Wartburg and Amani Public Charter School Partner in Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to showcase the Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle film series.  The Created Equal program will be conducted in partnership with scholars from Amani Public Charter School and Pelham Middle School who will view the film The Freedom Riders.  After viewing the film the scholars will engage in a conversation with each other via blog around discussion questions based on the film.  Student’s from both schools  will come together on Wednesday, May 28^th at 9am a the Pelham Picture House to engage in conversation/dialogue  with each other and a panel made up of  individuals who participated in Freedom Summer and the Civil Rights Movement.  The panel will be moderated by  Dr. John R. Howard PhD., JD, Distinguished Professor Emeritus and  Nancy Scheffer  and Evelyn Turner– participants in Freedom Summer.   The panel and scholars will discuss themes related to the search for equal rights, the meaning of democracy and freedom, and how each generation can work together to agree upon community action for positive change.
