Local Youth Get Big Bucks From Food Trucks

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - May 28, 2014 - PRLog -- Jacksonville, FL—May 20, 2014—The Jax Truckies Organization and the Jacksonville Landing partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida (BBBSNEFL) to host the 3^rd Annual Jax Truckies Food Truck Championship. The event drew approximately 9,000 people to the Jacksonville Landing and raised nearly $7,000 to support additional matches for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

BBBSNEFL’s mentoring program connects a caring, encouraging adult mentor with a student facing adversity. The success of the event means that more matches can be made bringing positivity and encouragement to children in need.BBBSNEFL’s Dawn Robbins said, “The Jax Truckies were amazing to work with on this event. The creativity, drive, and determination of all the Food Truck owners is exactly the kind of example we want to set for the kids in our programs. The funds raised by the competition will make a huge difference in a child’s life and in the future of our community as a whole.”

The Big/Little program has proven to be beneficial for the children enrolled and the statistics speak for themselves.

During the 2012-2013 fiscal year, 99% of BBBSNEFL students maintained or improved attendance, 92% had no behavior referrals or suspensions and 89% were promoted to the next grade.

Delicious cuisine from all over the world was represented at the event. Out of more than 30 different Food Truck competitors, the crowd awarded the 2014 People’s Choice Award to the Happy Grilled Cheese food truck.
