LOS ANGELES - May 27, 2014 - PRLog -- Nearly a hundred students from local elementary schools will attend a Young Engineer’s Day event at Wright Middle School STEAM Magnet (6550 West 80th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90045) in Westchester on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

To present Young Engineer’s Day to 4th and 5th graders from the local community, Wright has partnered with some of the country’s top science, engineering and technology companies like Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and Aerojet Rocketdyne, STEAM instruction programs such as Bricks 4 Kidz (Lego) and Project Lead The Way (PLTW), and the Wright Middle School 6th Grade STEAM Team.

“Wright Middle School STEAM Magnet’s Young Engineer’s Day will allow students and families within our community to experience the real-world engineering and design pathway that is our school focus,” said Christina Wantz, Principal at Wright Middle School STEAM Magnet. “Participants will explore project-based activities aimed at fueling their interest in engineering and how it can be used to change their world,” added Wantz.

The event will encourage students to explore STEAM fields, and present the “fun side” of engineering with hands-on demonstrations about how these specialized skills make our 21st Century world work.

“Kids can only be what they can see! STEM Education is the key component for a stronger America,” said Tony Magee, Director of STEM Education Outreach, Aerojet Rocketdyne. “STEM learning is an economic imperative. The goal is to inspire and encourage our young people – that they too can Be More, Do More and Have More in STEM. Also, Good Grades lead to Good Careers - which leads to a better chance to experience a really Good Life!"

During the event, students, their families, and the community will have an opportunity to visit various stations for hands-on learning and informative sessions. Young Engineer’s Day is being organized by Wright Middle School’s STEAM Team in collaboration with community representatives to help generate interest in Wright Middle School’s STEAM Magnet program and to showcase the upcoming programming and partnerships that the school is building for students.
