May 28, 2014 - PRLog -- Annapolis Shakespeare Company (ASC) will present two of Molière’s zaniest comedies - The Schemings of Scapin and The Imaginary Invalid - in the Courtyard at Reynolds Tavern from May 20th through October 7th.  Artistic Director Sally Boyett directs a cast of eight in the witty and action-packed Scapin which opens the season and runs through July 29th.  Kristin Clippard directs the hilarious The Imaginary Invalid, which runs August 5th through October 7th.  Both plays have been adapted by playwright Timothy Mooney.  The double bill for this summer’s Courtyard productions follows last summer’s successful eleven week run of Molière’s Tartuffe, which played to sold out crowds from July through the beginning of October.

In Molière’s The Schemings of Scapin, the brazenly-conniving servant Scapin is the most devious and audacious character you'll ever encounter. Two young men, Octave and Leandre, enlist his help to save them after they pledge marriage to women their fathers wouldn't approve of. Improvising his way through treacherous turns and outrageous misbehavior, Scapin manages to help the two men and their brides, even managing to exact a personal revenge in the process. Written by Moliere, adapted by Timothy Mooney, directed by Sally Boyett.  Playing every Tuesday at 7:30pm through July 29th in the Courtyard at Reynolds Tavern.

In Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid, the hypochondriac Argan wants nothing more than to be sick, or at least to be thought of as sick, and tended to by Doctors and Family (notably his scheming wife). His desire for treatment outweighs his judgment, as he tries to set his daughter up to marry an idiot doctor-in-training. Only the brilliant collaboration of the maid, Toinette, with his brother, Beralde, can foil the wife, conquer the doctors, and satisfy Argan.  Written by Moliere, adapted by Timothy Mooney, directed by Kristin Clippard.  Playing Tuesdays at 7:30pm from August 5th through October 7th in the Courtyard at Reynolds Tavern.

The Schemings of Scapin and The Imaginary Invalid will be presented at the Courtyard at Reynolds Tavern (7 Church Circle, Annapolis, MD 21401) every Tuesday evening at 7:30pm from May 20th through October 7th.  “Doors” open at 6:00pm for dinner and drinks.  In the event of a cancellation due to rain, there will be a “rain show” on the Wednesday evening immediately following the performance. Tickets are $16 in advance and $20 at the door. Annapolis Shakespeare is handling all tickets and table reservations through their box office at 410-415-3513 or online at AnnapolisShakespeare.org.

The Annapolis Shakespeare Company (ASC) is a not-for-profit, professional theatre company engaging the community with bold, re-imagined, entertaining and accessible interpretations of Shakespeare and the classics.  The company will present Shakespeare’s The Tempest, August 1-17, 2014 at the Bowie Playhouse, directed by guest director Jay Brock and Shakespeare’s Macbeth November 6-23, 2014, directed by Artistic Director, Sally Boyett.  Annapolis Shakespeare Company is a proud member of the Shakespeare Theatre Association, an international association of theatres dedicated to producing Shakespeare’s work.
