By: Leasing Association of Kenya During an exclusive Leasing Convention event today,entitled “leasing-the game changer”, LAK shared insights on the importance of how leasing can be used to facilitate economic growth. The industry event took place this morning at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies where over 150 delegates participated. The ceremony was officially opened by the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Hon. Henry Rotich. This was the first convention of its kind in Kenya and comes at a time when the government is committed to encouraging the county governments to stimulate development in their counties. In the financial year 2013/14 the Government of Kenya (GoK) embarked on leasing 1,100 police vehicles, the most committed engagement by government on leasing. Additionally, the Cabinet passed a resolution to have all government Ministries embark on leasing as a mechanism to carry out their mandates in an era of limited financial resources. Also the new constitution provides a major investment challenge for County governments in regards to how they should stimulate development in their counties as they now face the option of capital investments versus other alternative means such as leasing. The convention is specifically designed for asset finance and leasing professionals committed to developing essential industry knowledge and expertise. The LAK convention will attract over 150 people from both private & public sector and 20 technical and business decision makers from the County governments and will also highlight the exponential effect the Government leasing program will have on the economy in Kenya through accelerated Capital formation and their role in the implementation of the same Some of the topics covered during the seminar include; - Public Sector Leasing for accelerating job creation, industrialization and service delivery; - Exponential impact of leasing on the Kenyan economy; - Enhancing Public Private Partnerships During the two-day’s event, delegates have the opportunity to build knowledge and skills through a wide range of visionary keynote sessions by top executives both local and international, as well as technical and business breakout sessions that will bring enhanced value to their business and provide insight into how to stay competitive in the current economic climate. It will also provide a forum for counties, industry players and the stakeholders in the region to dialogue on and an exhibition designed to increase interaction and rapport between all stake holders in the industry. About LAK The Leasing Association of Kenya (LAK) is an umbrella association of asset finance and leasing practioners in Kenya. The origin of LAK was the East, Central & Southern Africa Leasing Association which was registered in Kenyan in 2003. It was an association limited by guarantee but the name was later changed name to the Leasing Association of Kenya in 2007 to better reflect the membership.
