Throughout the month of May, all Hilton Worldwide properties and corporate offices around the globe organize and host events as an expression of Hilton Worldwide’s Open Doors commitment, which aims to impact one million young people by 2019.
Hilton KHBTCC’s role in the month long celebration will enjoy a culinary flair with the launch of a competition in partnership with the Jordan Applied University and the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and in collaboration with Al Faridah for Specialized Publications. Headlined ‘What’s Your Beef’, the initiative called upon students from both schools to design and cook a main course dish.
Budding chefs and enthusiastic cooks will prepare their dishes, along with the recipe, to a judging committee who will evaluate and select winners based on creativity, originality, formulation and display. Judges include Kamel Ajami, Hilton Worldwide’s country manager for Jordan and three renowned foodies: Lama Haddadin, Forbes’ Middle East’s most prominent food blogger; Fida Taher, an eminent local cooking professional and founder of the well known cooking website zaytouneh.com and Ali Noor, the co-owner of Kaylani Foods, the largest supplier of beef products to the industry in Jordan.
Two finalists from each school will be chosen for a live cook off scheduled in June. The winner will not only receive the congratulations of the judges and their peers, but also be offered a guaranteed contract of employment with a Hilton Worldwide hotel and the winning dish will also be featured for one year on a restaurant menu at the upcoming Hilton Dead Sea Resort and Spa, scheduled to open later this year. All proceeds generated from the sale of this dish will benefit a special education fund.
Kamel Ajami, country manager – Jordan at Hilton Worldwide, said: “The aim of this initiative is to offer young people a fun and a unique opportunity to be inspired to join the hospitality industry. It comes as part of our efforts in Jordan to build on the company’s global efforts to invest in the long term future of young people around the world.”
