Curbing the Challenges of Keeping Warm this Winter

PRLog - May 26, 2014 - JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- As winter fast approaches, many of us look to our trusty oil heaters and wardrobe in order to keep warm; yet there are additional solutions that can provide much-needed heat on those cold evenings.

Michael McKechnie, Divisional Head for Digital Air Solutions at Samsung Electronics SA, says, “The answer can be found in the latest digital air solutions.” He offers the following ‘need to know’ tips for keeping warm and healthy as well as an eye on your electricity bill:

Choose an air-conditioner as an alternative to a heater

There are a range of innovative appliances which will give the consumer the benefit of a temperature controlled environment, by using technology that produces heat. “Using an air-conditioner during winter is significantly more efficient than a traditional heater. Heat is spread more evenly and dispersed over a wider area rather than simply being focused on one small area. Further to this, it provides for a safer option, especially in the case of oil or gas heaters,” says McKechnie.

High medical bills due to colds and flu - aircon technology can help

Viruses and infectious bacteria are particularly prevalent during the season and can often go undetected. At the same time, people tend to be more vulnerable to flu as they spend more time indoors, with little ventilation with other people who may already have flu.  However, air-conditioners can provide a viable alternative by both regulating room temperature, as well as clearing the air of any impurities.

Samsung’s range of air-conditioners features a Virus Doctor application that keeps families healthy and comfortable through innovative air purifying technology – S-Plasma Ion, neutralises harmful contaminants in the air by turning them into harmless water vapor. Virus Doctor and Easy Filter eliminates dust, dangerous airborne contaminants and allergens, as well as bacteria and viruses, including the Influenza A and Corona viruses – firstly using an antibacterial filter and secondly with Virus Doctor. The Easy Filter is located outside, on top of the air-conditioner, for easy maintenance.

High electricity bills

Air-conditioners can be one of the most energy efficient means of heating and will ensure that consumers don’t have to worry about receiving a high electricity bill. For example, Samsung has a range of market-leading smart inverter products, allowing a saving of up to 76% on energy consumption compared to non-inverter air-conditioners and delivers the world's top Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, of up to 10.1. Unlike a non-inverter unit, Samsung’s Smart-Inverter-Compressor technology maintains the temperature without constantly shutting the compressor on and off, thereby using considerably less electricity than a non-inverter model. These air-conditioners form part of Samsung’s Triangle range and include a Single User Mode feature. This application will ensure an energy saving of up to 26% because it allows the user to control the capacity of air, depending on how many people are in a room at any given time. Samsung’s triangle units come with a warranty period of ten years.

“Winter can be an uncomfortable and challenging time when it comes to keeping warm, preventing illnesses and keeping electricity bills down; but advanced digital air solution technology provides an effective answer to all these challenges. At Samsung, we make it our priority to continuously embrace innovation and develop products that will support consumers at all times of the year,” concludes McKechnie.
