OFS CEO Promotes Business Growth During 2014 Tech Trek in DC

PRLog - May 23, 2014 - ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- March 1, 2014, Newtown, PA.   Rich Napoli, CEO of ObjectFrontier, participated in 2014’s annual Tech Trek event where top business leaders lobbied with members of Congress to share and discuss issues critical to small and mid-size American businesses.

Rich joined his fellow New Jersey Technology Council board members in Washington DC for the event and was able to speak with several house representatives and senators on how certain law changes would help promote innovation and growth in American businesses, boosting jobs and local economies.

The hot topics of the day covered data breach notification legislation, new and emerging technology platforms and patent reforms, and workforce, education, and immigration reform.

Rich spoke particularly on the topic of how to keep the United States as the #1 technology provider in the world, promoting domestic economic growth and prosperity.  He shared that currently, the US only graduates 8,000 computer science majors annually, which is not nearly enough to fill the nationwide demand for software skills. He suggested in the long-term that the US attract and educate more US students in the fields of computer science and information technology through better STEM programs.  In the short term, he suggested we need the following to maintain the US’s position as the world’s epicenter of technology innovation:

·          More permanent visas authorized to import highly-skilled talent from countries like India, which produces over 250,000 computer science graduates annually

·          Automatic award of permanent visas to STEM college graduates

·          Incentives to hire and retrain outdated technologists

With Rich’s suggestions and the suggestions of all the businesspeople who trekked to DC this year, America’s legislators were able to receive a better sense of what technology firms need from them in order to succeed and contribute to national economic growth.

Industry organizations involved in organizing the Tech Trek event included TechVoice, TECNA – Technology Councils of North America, and CompTIA – Computing Technology Industry Association.
