It’s Not Only Humans That Get That Sinking Feeling

May 23, 2014 - PRLog -- Removals firm Advanced Removal were shocked when they returned to their 18-tonne vehicle to find one of its tyres has submerged into a street in Cheltenham.

The Mercedes 1820 lorry was listing at an unnatural angle after the front left tyre has sunken into the road. It is believed that the truck had unfortunately parked on an air pocket spot, which had been warmed by the sun.

The sunken lorry wasn’t the worst of their worries though, as they were urged to move the vehicle or they would face a £10,000 fine.

The removals company was fortunate to have a replacement vehicle nearby to help complete the move, while their mechanics tried to remove the Mercedes lorry from the road.

The road that the lorry was on was a busy one in the area, which meant action had to be taken swiftly in order to prevent ‘complete chaos’.

Company director Geoff Hartwell, said “I have been working in this business for 30 years now and never have I seen anything quite like this - it is beyond belief.”

Once the vehicle was removed it left a rather unsightly hole in the road which needed to reconstructed, hopefully so no other vehicles will sink into the surface.
