Weymouth Bank is one of 40 businesses and organizations to hold this position with the South Shore Chamber. Its partnership with the Chamber affords financial commitment, promotional opportunity, high level connections with other Chamber partners and high-level participation in Chamber activities, while boosting the Chamber’s visibility and reaching out to existing and potential members.
Weymouth Bank is celebrating a significant milestone this year: its 125th anniversary. The Bank traces its history to 1889 when a group of prominent citizens chartered the town’s first cooperative bank, South Weymouth Cooperative Bank. The original purpose was to allow people the opportunity to pool their savings and loan them to each other for the building or purchasing of their own homes. The Bank’s original officers and directors included a lawyer, a florist, a grocer, a yeast salesman, a builder, an ice dealer, a high school principal, a retailer, a manufacturer, a physician, and a realtor. In 1981, North and South Weymouth Cooperative Banks joined together to form what was called Weymouth Cooperative Bank; in 2002, the Bank became known as Weymouth Bank. Today, Weymouth Bank has evolved into a full-service community bank run by local people serving local people and offering a broad array of residential, commercial, municipal, and consumer loan and deposit products and services. The Bank is committed to remaining an active supporter of its local community through support of youth sports, local charities, and public projects throughout the South Shore.
The Bank’s anniversary celebration will include a number of events between now and July. One of these events will be in conjunction with the South Shore Chamber, an after hours event held May 8 at their main office in East Weymouth, 744 Broad Street, from 5:30 to 7:30.Anyone interested in learning more about Weymouth Bank’s 125th anniversary events is encouraged to visit the Bank’s website (www.weymouthbank.com) or their Social Media sites.
