Follow on Google News | South Side Community Art Center to host 49th Annual Art Auction on June 7WCL’s Val Warner to Emcee event honoring Artist Douglas Williams
By: South Side Community Art Center Included in the auction are works by over 40 ‘master artists’, among them Romare Bearden, SSCAC Founder Dr. Margaret Burroughs, Elizabeth Catlett, Eldzier Cortor and Richard Hunt. Honorary Chair for the auction is Dr. Carol Adams, CEO of the DuSable Museum, a sister organization to SSCAC that was also founded by Dr. Burroughs. Noted Chicago Artist Candace Hunter will serve as auctioneer. “The SSCAC is proud to showcase some of the premier African American artist in the world during our auction”, said Sammie Dortch, board chair of the SSCAC. “The talent represented in this auction runs the gambit from established Black masters to current contemporary artists, many of whom will be in attendance at the auction.” The event begins with a Silent Auction from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. which includes a Dinner Buffett and viewing of the art for sale; Live Auction is from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $65. Of 110 Federal Art Project’s centers, the SSCAC is the only surviving art center and the oldest African American Center in the country. The center’s mission is to preserve, conserve and promote the legacy and future of African American art and artists, while educating the community on the value of art and culture.
