John Ross Palmer Painting to be Featured by Houston's METRO

3rd Generation Houstonian John Ross Palmer will have his painting, Houston: City of Opportunity, immortalized on one of the city's revitalized METRO Bus Stops in conjunction with Leadership Houston Class XXXII's effort to improve public transit.

HOUSTON - May 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Leadership Houston Class XXXII has selected John Ross Palmer’s painting Houston: City of Opportunity as the featured artwork of their year-long class project to revitalize and improve the city’s public transit system.  Palmer’s original painting will be digitized and magnified to great proportion to cover the Bus Stop at the corner of Albacore Dr. and Bissonnet St. (Outside the Jim and JoAnn Fonteno Senior Education Center).  Class XXXII is helping to build the dynamic shelter in conjunction with the Adopt-a-Stop program, an existing joint effort between METRO Police and community volunteers to keep communities safe, clean and provide shelter.  A grand Ribbon Cutting ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Bus Stop on June 3, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Artist John Ross Palmer, a graduate of Alief Hastings High School, is a third generation Houstonian and fifth generation Texan.

Houston: City of Opportunity is Palmer’s vision of his beloved hometown of Houston, Texas. It’s a collection of diverse, hardworking individuals “riding together” on Metro towards the common goal of personal and professional fulfillment. You can discern a businessman, a student, a doctor, a nurse and a construction worker. While these persons maintain independence and strength in their own right, they are each bound together by the strong undercurrent of opportunity that is made available to all in our great city.  Prior to the Ribbon Cutting ceremony, the general public will have the opportunity to acquire the original painting or an exclusive limited edition print via the Square Marketplace.  Palmer’s business will be generously donating 50% of these sales to Leadership Houston, a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to enlighten, empower and engage diverse community leaders broadened knowledge and understanding of the greater Houston area.   Palmer is thrilled, “I love Houston, I love Leadership Houston and I love honoring my hometown!  This project combines all three and I simply could not be more proud.”  Palmer will be in Nice, France on his annual art study-abroad trip during the Ribbon Cutting ceremony but will have collectors and Escapist Artists attend on his behalf.
