American Conference on Diversity Educators’ Institute: Closing the Gap Between Teachers & Students

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - May 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Researchers from the Center for American Progress (http://tinyurl.com/qeq736g) and the National Education Association recently found that although almost half of the students attending U.S. public schools are minorities, fewer than 1 in 5 have a teacher of color. As a result, an increasingly diverse student body can feel disconnected in the classroom.

To help create more inclusive learning environments in which all students feel welcome, the American Conference on Diversity, in cooperation with the Peter Sammartino School of Education at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) and with generous support from Wells Fargo Bank, will offer “The Power of Educators: Creating Multicultural Learning Environments” through our Summer Educators’ Institute on July 8 (8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).

The Summer Educators’ Institute is ideal for:

►Guidance Counselors

►Social Workers

What Attendees Say About Our Summer Educators’ Institute:

“I am proud to be an on-going participant of the Educators’ Institute of the American Conference on Diversity. Over the past years, I have taken workshops covering issues dealing with immigrant students in the classroom; multi-cultural learning environments; sexual orientation in schools and navigating race in the classroom. The invaluable information shared, and the lively dialogue that is encouraged, is what keeps me returning to take these workshops. I return to my own school filled with enthusiasm (and new-found knowledge) and excited to let my fellow colleagues know how much information we as educators still need to learn and how this knowledge can be shared and taught to our students in a fun, collaborative, informative manner. I continue to look forward to being a participant to any future workshop(s) offered by the American Conference on Diversity.”
