LOS ANGELES - May 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Night of Pan features Fifteen-year-old female protagonist Thaleia as she finds her destiny, and a ploy that could destroy Greece. Says Strickland of her unique choice to write from the Oracle’s perspective

"Night of Pan is based on true events—a history mostly told by men who depict the Oracle of Delphi as a drugged-crazed teenager manipulated by politically-savvy priests. Night of Pan reveals a different truth."

Having studied the Classics and spent time in Greece post-college, Strickland found love in mythology. She quickly became passionate about bringing the richness of Homer's language and culture to today's youth.  Night of Pan does not glorify being tasked by the Gods to fulfill the role of the Oracle. Instead, she demonstrates the danger of her destiny and the disturbing horrors these prophecies bring, while still remaining appropriate for young readers.  For lovers of the recent book-to-film franchise Percy Jackson, this Greek mythology YA is a must-read adventure for Fall 2014.

More about Night of Pan

Ancient Greece, 480 BCE. Fifteen-year-old Thaleia is rebellious, brave… and dead, resting at peace in the Elysian Fields. The satyr-god Pan offers her a choice: live forever with the gods or return to Delphi—sacred center of the ancient world—to claim her destiny as Oracle and save Greece from the largest invasion the world has ever seen: one-and-a-half million Persians led by King Xerxes.

Thaleia chooses to return.
But it isn’t easy to be chosen by the gods. Thaleia has visions no one else does: roofs dripping blood, Athens burning. She must convince her best friend and all the villagers that she’s not crazy. The gods do speak to her. As her prophecies come true, she claims her destiny as Oracle. But her life is in danger. The priests banished the last Oracle and want to seize Thaleia’s power. When the Persian army marches beneath the cliffs of Mt. Parnassus, Thaleia plays her panpipes—a gift from Pan—and summons a thunderstorm and earthquake. She stops the invaders, banishing them forever from Delphi and thereby saves the cradle of democracy. But can she rescue her best friend from the priest’s evil tradition of virgin sacrifice?
