Case documents revealed that Okofu was standing on the west curb of Airport Boulevard waiting for the green light at the crosswalk. When the light turned green, he carefully walked across going eastbound. He was obviously shaken up, with blurred vision and a laceration to his forehead. After the accident, he sought emergency medical care from Centinela Hospital Medical Center. There, X-rays and CT scans of his brain were performed, he was treated and provided medication before being released to home care.

However, due to persistent symptoms, Okofu had to seek further medical evaluation and treatments from several doctors, to include a chiropractor, a neurologist, and an orthopedic. After months of tests, he was diagnosed with a closed head injury, contusions on his left arm, elbow, knee, and leg, and post-traumatic headaches, among others. After the evaluations, he was recommended to undergo future medical care, including chiropractic treatments, to address his pain symptoms for the traumatic injuries he sustained in the accident.

The accident would not have happened had the driver of the vehicle owned by the car rental company exercised caution while driving, in which he could have looked out for approaching vehicles and/or crossing pedestrians before he proceed to make his turn. Since the driver was working for the car rental company, liability for Okofu’s injuries was placed on the latter.
