May 20, 2014 - PRLog -- The Loudoun County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (LCAC), recently awarded 6 Loudoun County High School students with college scholarships ranging from $500 to $5000, totally $10,000.

The scholarship recipients were the lucky 6 out of 17 high school students that applied for the college scholarships.  Asked to submit an application with official high school transcripts and an essay, the winners of the scholarships were evaluated based on academics, extra-curriculum activities and community service.  The final 6 were chosen based on their superb academics, and ability to excel in other areas that are important when developing a well-rounded scholar—extra curriculum activities; such as sports and school clubs/organizations, and community outreach initiatives.   The categories for the scholarships were:  Exceptional Scholar, STEM Scholar, Leadership Scholar, and General Scholars.

LCAC plans to award multiple college scholarships in 2015; with the goal being 7.  Female students who are interested in applying for one of LCAC’s scholarships should reach out to their High School counselor for the application.  The deadline for the scholarship applications is January 13, 2015.

LCAC is dedicated to serving the Loudoun County community through programs and projects geared towards educational development, economic development, physical and mental health, political awareness and involvement, and international awareness and involvement.  In addition to awarding college scholarships, LCAC also conducts various mentorship programs through LCPS middle schools and high schools.  The program focused on middle school aged girls is known as Delta Academy, and high school aged boys are able to take part in the E.M.B.O.D.I. (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) program.  For additional information on any of these programs, parents are asked to reach out to LCAC via the LCAC website—www.lcacdst.org.
