Waverly Virginia Native, Author & Army Veteran To Speak at Memorial Day Program

PETERSBURG, Va. - May 20, 2014 - PRLog -- "Service is the highest calling, to your country, family and community." according to the words of Deborah's late ‘old soldier’ uncle, retired Command Sergeant Major, Vietnam Vet, Ranger Hall of Fame inductee, former Chief Magistrate of the 6thJudicial District, national president of 555th Parachute Infantry Association, and the Honorable Chair of the Sussex County Board of Supervisors, lovingly known as Hardcore and Horace to his family.  She will share those words to encourage the citizens of Waverly to 'press on' in their goals for this beloved hometown, especially the young people. The Memorial Day program will also include a wreath laying ceremony and other community activities.

After retiring from the army in 1984, Harris returned to Waverly, on a new mission to making a difference in his community. Through personal adversities and losses he persevered, while tirelessly helping others and moving them to action while  imparting his wisdom. And then Hardcore passed in December 2011, but Deborah vowed to 'keep going' in his honor.

Through her company, The DPJ Training Group, based in Leesburg, Deborah has been providing motivational speaking, leadership, diversity and personal development learning programs for private and public sector clients for over 15 years. To solidify her work, Deborah blends an academic background of an M.A. in Human Resource Development from George Mason University, B.A. in Sociology from The College of William and Mary along with career stops as an Army reserve officer and corporate manager, to ensure best result outcomes for her customers. She is a member of the Metro DC Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development, Loudoun County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and other community groups. Deborah has penned three other books to include her motivational autobiography, Navigating Life's Roadways: Stories of Insight from My Odyssey and Inspiration for Your Journey, chronicling highlights of her life's setbacks and successes with the themes of career, family, and choices in an engaging format with relatable takeaways for readers. .
