COPPELL, Texas - May 20, 2014 - PRLog -- On May 24, 2014, the Change for Haiti 5k race will take place in Andy Park East at 9 a.m., in Coppell, Texas supporting education in Haiti through Texas based nonprofit, Hope for the Hungry.

The race is being organized by 11th grade students from an AP English class in Coppell. 11th grader, Sarah Zeh has been spearheading the class project with Hope for the Hungry as a humantarian aid project with a goal to raise money to make a difference beyond their classroom.

This race in particular will benefit education efforts for students in Haiti. Hope for the Hungry has been serving in Haiti since 1982 and has helped build multiple schools in Haiti and currently supports two schools in Haiti. This includes providing education for over six hundred students; both elementary and middle school ages and a school feeding program.

This race will help to provide education to children in a country where only 52% of people over the age of fifteen can read or write and only 65% of school aged children are enrolled in school. The Change for Haiti 5k and free Kid K is truly a students helping students event. The high school students have been involved in every decision and have worked hard taking on a variety of tasks to host a successful race. The students have coined the phrase, “A little change can make a big impact” because of the spare change that is also being collected on day of the race and the days leading up to the race.

Hope for the Hungry host two trail races each year in Central Texas, the Trails of Hope races. The team from Hope for the Hungry was truly honored when the students from Coppell wanted to bring a race to the D/FW area. The Change for Haiti 5k race is fun for us because of the very active role of the students organizing the event, they are true world changers.

To register for the race go to www.trailsofhope.com, or race day registration is open the morning of the race from 7 to 8:30 am at the site of the race. Or you can also bring your spare change to the race site as a donation to Hope for the Hungry. Andy Brown Park East is located at 260 Parkway Blvd., Coppell, TX
