ASA to Offer New Masters Gemological Course

PRLog - May 20, 2014 - RESTON, Va. -- The American Society of Appraisers is pleased to announce a new gemological course for gems and jewelry professionals in its Master Sessions series.

“GJ209b: Masters Session – Recognizing Treated Gems and Origin Issues,” will be offered July 19-20, 2014 in McLean, VA. The course was developed exclusively for the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) by Dr. Cigdem Lule, PhD in collaboration with Christopher Smith, President of American Gemological Laboratories (AGL), NY. Dr. Lule will be the primary presenter with Mr. Christopher Smith providing scientific support and teaching the “Country of Origin” focused portion of the program.

“ASA continues with its efforts to offer advanced gemological training”, says Teri Brossmer, a Glendora, CA based gemological and valuation expert who holds ASA, MGA, and G.G designations. As education chair for the society’s gems and jewelry discipline, Brossmer adds “professional jewelry appraisers will benefit tremendously from the hands-on nature of this course.”

This appraiser-focused one and a half day course combines lectures with hands-on opportunities to present both the relevant theory for and practical experience with the most commonly encountered gem treatments in the most commercially important gemstones species, and will also provide attendees with current information about country of origin issues, including how geologic formation influences treatment options as well the market impact of country of origin.

Tuition is $995 for ASA members and $1,095 for non-members. Class is expected to sell out. Individuals wishing to be placed on a waiting list may e-mail asainfo@appraisers.org or call (800) 272-8258.

Additional upcoming ASA courses for professional jewelry appraisers include two USPAP courses, a 7-Hour Update to be held July 31, 2014 and a 15-Hour National to be held August 1-2, 2014. Both will be offered in conjunction with Jewelry Camp at the Westchester Renaissance in West Harrison, NY.
