Senior Community ‘Rock Around the Clock’ benefits Luke’s Wings

Newhaven Court at Lindwood to host Johnny Angel & the Halos on May 31

PRLog - May 19, 2014 - GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Newhaven Court at Lindwood will host an oldies rock ’n roll show to benefit Luke’s Wings, an organization that unites wounded warriors, veterans and heroes with their loved ones when they need them most.

Popular Pittsburgh band Johnny Angel and the Halos will provide the entertainment during the May 31 event at Newhaven Court at Lindwood, a senior living community located at 100 Freedom Way in Greensburg. The Rock Around the Clock show begins at 5 p.m. Recommended donations of a $5 admission will go to Luke’s Wings.

“All of our IntegraCare senior communities are raising money for Luke’s Wings throughout the year,” said Pamela Porter, Director of Sales and Marketing at Newhaven Court at Lindwood, one of 10 communities in Pennsylvania and Maryland operated by Wexford-based IntegraCare. “Here at Lindwood, we work with a few veterans groups. We want to raise awareness of Luke’s Wings and we want to honor our veterans.”

Luke’s Wings’ mission is to unite veterans and wounded warriors with their family and friends who otherwise wouldn’t be able to be present during this time of need. The organization covers travel expenses enabling families and loved ones to support those who were injured while serving their country.

“When a soldier or wounded warrior comes back from war and goes to a hospital for their injuries, the family members normally don’t live in that area,” Porter said. “Luke’s Wings flies them to that area.”

Porter said Newhaven Court at Lindwood plans to show a video about Luke’s Wings’ mission.

“We feel this event to benefit Luke’s Wings is hitting close to home for the residents,” said Katie Slezak, Director of Move-ins at Newhaven Court at Lindwood. “Our veteran residents wanted to learn about Luke’s Wings. They really support the cause.”

The Rock Around the Clock event will be held outdoors in a 40-by-80-foot tent. Dancing, food and beverages will be part of the evening.

“Johnny Angel and the Halos are from Irwin and they’re very popular,” Slezak said.

“The band has a large following. There are groups of people who follow the band everywhere they play,” Porter added.

Newhaven Court at Lindwood is the host and primary sponsor of the event. Excela Health also is a sponsor.
