Attracting, Developing & Retaining Talent & Leaders In Non-Western Cultures

Leading FSTE & FORBES 100 Global Companies to Share Proven and Effective Strategies, Case Studies and Advice

May 19, 2014 - PRLog -- Talent in Emerging & Growth Markets 2014 is a two-stream corporate event that imparts both practical advice and proven strategies on rolling out successful HR projects to attract, develop and retain top-performing employees and globally-focused leaders in non-Western cultures. The event is geared to answer senior board member and CEO concerns with retaining longer-term human capital investment and ensuring the employer brand and EVP is attractive to a local market. 22 senior HR practitioners including CHROs and other executives will be presenting at the event. Conference will take place 4-5th June 2014, at the Sheraton Ataköy Hotel in Istanbul.

Tucana Global, a new and innovative events production company, is responding to senior board member concerns about succeeding in cultural HR transitional projects, and undertook a 6-month viability study to create the conference agenda. After surveying thousands of senior HR professionals, some strongly recurring topics emerged, which can be broadly split into the themes of ‘Recruitment and Branding’ and ‘Talent Development and Retention’.

Leading themes to be covered at the event include the creation and customisation of an Employer Brand that is attractive to an employment market in a non-Western, fast-growing economy, as Deutsche Bank and Coca-Cola have done successfully; understanding and connecting with graduates in unfamiliar and competitive environments, and avoiding culture clash, which has been strategically and tactically planned very well by EDF and Hitachi; attracting and retaining ex-pats, which Cleveland Clinic have achieved remarkably well in Abu Dhabi, and preparing for – and working with – unfamiliar labour laws, which Cargotec have a lot of experience in.

Barry Swales, Head of Conference Production at Tucana Global commented on the event, “Western companies are increasingly finding that their standard HR practices in the West are ineffective in rapidly-growing economies. It’s been shown that Employer Brands that are effective in the West can backfire spectacularly in the East, so companies are realising that an investment in preparation for areas like this can save an enormous amount over the medium-long term in terms of succession management and attrition rates.”

On the other side of the event, topics such as identifying and developing talent in transitory employment environments, building capacity in acquired businesses, local skills development programmes, developing leaders with a global mindset, and introducing Western work practices will all be addressed by companies like Caterpillar, ArcelorMittal, Alfa Laval and Rixos Hotels.

Other major themes are designing an Engagement and Retention strategy that is culturally aware, on which ING have done a lot of work recently, with great success, and cross-cultural Leadership Development and the instilling of a global mindset, which Alfa Laval will discuss, along with Kris Wadia, ex-Managing Director of Accenture and acclaimed international Leadership consultant.
