Importance of design when adding or renovating an en-suite bathroom

Every customer is different, they have different tastes, different needs and different budgets however when it comes to designing an en-suite they all have one common concern – space. In order to ease and overcome this there are a few elements I always try to incorporate into the design:

1. Wet Floor Shower

Ideally I would prefer to incorporate a wet floor shower into the design of an en-suite. This is due to a few reasons including the element of not losing any ‘usable’ floor space as the shower and floor are as one with a singular drained waste for water. Further benefits include the design of a wet floor shower being able to suite any sized space, within reason.

2. Wall Mounted & Corner Fixtures

Similar to the above, wall mounted fixtures are great for giving the impression of more space due to still being able to see floor area. Wall mounted fixtures are available for basins and toilets with some basins also being provided in smaller sizes.

Corner toilets and basins can help make a small space work better. No one stands in the corner of a room, therefore if you put your fittings into the corners, you’ll be left with more useable room in the middle, making the room seem less busy.

3. Clever Storage

Built in storage, for example a basin unit, wall mounted storage, corner storage and mobile storage are all ideal for en-suite bathrooms it really just depends on personal preference, amount of storage needed and design availability (colour schemes which match other design elements).

4. Decoration

Mirrors reflect light, which helps make a space seem brighter and airier. Adding a mirror or two is one of the simplest cloakroom ideas and often one of the most satisfying to implement. Finally by adding some pale décor, light reflecting tiles or paint, you could make a small en-suite feel a lot bigger. Whichever you prefer all will help to bounce plenty of light around your room, lending it an airy and spacious feel.

5. Hide Pipework

Hiding pipework will inevitably make a small space feel bigger whilst at the same time making the space look cleaner and tidier. This is one tip I would encourage across all bathroom design whether the main bathroom, en-suite or cloakroom / downstairs WC.
