PORTLAND, Maine - May 19, 2014 - PRLog -- (Peaks Island, ME) Richard Boyd Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a solo exhibition of paintings by Portland, Maine artist Jeanne O'Toole Hayman on Tuesday, July 1 at 10:00 am. Jeanne finds the natural beauty of the rugged coast and waterways of Maine to be a never-ending source of inspiration. For Hayman's current body of work in her words, "the movement and flow of water, our most precious resource is at the center of this series of paintings. The mood of these canvases changes the pace of each piece. The ebb and flow of the tides. The wind ruffled surface. The surge and roar of the swells on the rocks, works well with the gestural style of my painting. Most of my work is in oil, my favorite medium (other than graphite, ink and paper). However, this year I am experimenting with acrylics on a very large piece, it covers quickly and has a liveliness I am enjoying."

A multi-talented artist working in the media of print, encaustic and painting, Jeanne began to develop her skills at the Mason Gross Center for Innovative Printmaking at Rutgers University and has been "honing them ever since." Unlike the technical demands of printmaking, painting gives Hayman the freedom to explore the subject by layering on color from a rich palette, creating form with thick impasto gestures. Her paintings primarily in oil depicting her two favorite subjects, landscapes and seascapes, seek to evoke a sense of movement and place in the viewer.

The exhibit is on view free to the public from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily through July 31, 2014. The public is invited to meet Jeanne at a reception on Saturday, July 5 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at Richard Boyd Art Gallery, where she will be available to discuss her recent series of paintings. The gallery is located on Peaks Island, Maine at the corner of Island Avenue and Epps Street, in the first building on the right on the first floor.
