BANGALORE, India - May 19, 2014 - PRLog -- Bangalore, May 17, 2014 - With a mission to spread Autism awareness in the Bangalore city, Mantri Square in association with Hope - the early intervention centre - organized Car-a-thon – a unique treasure hunt based fun drive on Saturday morning. The event was flagged off by Mrs. Snehal Mantri, Director Marketing & HR and the Honorable Sri B Dayananda, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Bangalore from St. Joseph India High School.

What an eventful day! Bangaloreans were driven by sheer excitement and adventure to hit the road and embark on a journey unraveling the clues all the way. Mantri Square Car-A-Thon is an unique treasure hunt based fun drive to create awareness in the city on the mystery and complexity of Autism.

Due to the high level of ignorance in India, Autism is generally treated as social stigma. Most often autism is treated as mental retardation or it is treated as a disease and the children and the parents have a hard time dealing with it or in seeking help. The rate of autism in India is 1 in 250 (figure may vary as many cases are not diagnosed) and currently 10 million people are suffering in the nation. Hence, it is important to have extensive awareness about Autism on ways to tackle it at different levels- medical, parental, social and psychological levels.

This activity reiterates Mantri Square's belief to give back to society and create positive change and add value to every community in which it exists.  It was a proud moment for Mantri Square when participants from across the city came forward to drive in support of creating awareness on Autism. Participants and their families gathered with their cars all fuelled up for the venture. They were briefed on the rules of the drive at the flag off venue. The Camaraderie of the participants and the crowd was super thrilling!

Overwhelmed by the great response, Mrs. Snehal Mantri – Director - Marketing & HR said, "I feel great pride to see the enthusiasm in the participants who have come forward to take the mission ahead. We truly believe that every drop of Autism awareness and acceptance counts. It is the responsibility of each one of us to do our bit to spread the word". Adding further she said, "I would like to extend my profound gratitude to Honorable Sri B Dayananda, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Bangalore and all the benevolent participants present here for their dedicated support in our endeavour to spread maximum awareness on the myths associated with autism."

Expressing his delight at the phenomenal response, Mr Praveen Methil, Head-Mall Management, Mantri Square said "We are proud to have hosted and initiated this unique campaign to support creating awareness on Autism in the city. There is a pressing need for greater public education and awareness of autism in our community. There is a primary myth that autism is social disinterest and desire to be alone. However, the fact is that they just struggle in communicating their thoughts, we just need to accept them and be patient to understand the silence. I would like to thank everyone for this whole hearted support and for coming forward to drive this cause ahead."

During the Car-a-thon, participants had to drive through nine different check points solving puzzles and cracking clues to reach the final destination.. While following strict driving and safety rules and regulations, the participants drove through the city following the trail given to them.  It was well organized with an interesting route map consisting of places like Maria Niketan school -  Cox town. Mobile Tyre tech -  Kammanahalli, XLR8 Hennur main road,  Reva college,  Yelahanka new town club, GKVK road, Mantri Lithos at Manyata Tech Park. Informative tips and facts on Autism was shared with the participants at each point The Car-a-thon came to a successful end at Mantri Square.   . At the ending point, the participants were greeted with special performances and experts speak on Autism awareness at Mantri Square.

The 1st winner of the Car-a-thon won a 42 inch LED TV, the 2nd & 3rd winner took home a Yamaha Alpha Ray bike.  Exciting prizes were announced for other top 5 performers too.
