By: Mithout Gomez Highlights of this dazzling event will include musical group “Raram de NY” as well as gospel group “Corner Stone,” one of the emerging groups taking the community by storm. Another segment will include poetry, patriotic songs, as well as a host of activities aimed at celebrating the creation of the flag, which symbolizes Haiti's anti-colonialist struggle for freedom and independence some 210 years ago. “This event aims to recognize the sacrifices made by those who created this flag that symbolizes freedom and courage,” said Peter Pouchon, executive producer of Caribbean Images TV, one of the event’s organizers. “It will be a time for celebration, but more importantly it will be a time for reflection as well.” Among those expected to be in attendance are Canada-based keynote speaker Guerdy Jacques, professor Elder Nelson of Medgar Evers College, Haitian Consul General Charles Antoine Forbin, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Rev. Dennis Dillon, Dr, Roy Hasticks of CACCI, as well as a host of City and State elected officials. “As a Caribbean-American, I am extremely proud to join my Haitian brothers and sisters in celebrating the creation of the Haitian Flag,” said Dr. Hasticks, one of the event’s co-organizers. “We are here today to lend our support to a flag that symbolizes freedom throughout the Caribbean and beyond.” Caribbean Images Television has sponsored countless flag day events throughout the Haitian community, including Nostrand Avenue's largest annual celebration. The tone this year is one of pride and love of country, Mr. Pouchon noted. "It's all for the community," he said.
