“We automatically take a copy of your web site from our primary web server and place it on an additional 24 web servers spread across the world. Requests for your web page are delivered from the nearest web server. If you have a web site visitor in Germany, for instance, our server in Frankfort will automatically be detected as closest to deliver your web page” says Robert Kalnes, owner of AmeriWeb Hosting. “This reduces internet traffic latency, delivering your web site quickly”.
If the nearest server is overloaded or goes down, then the request is automatically passed to the closest working web server. Imagine having an infomercial that triggered a hundred thousand web page requests within a few minutes. It would typically overload a single web server, however we have 24 more to share the load with. If one server becomes unavailable, the other 24 step in. This puts your site on 25 live servers, geographically dispersed across the world.
This redundancy would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars a few years ago. Today, it is a free enhancement.
