Victims of Misfortune: Changing the Pecking Order is a feature-length, social change documentary, following, Levon Hinton a filmmaker, as he examines and investigates one of the most destructive, inhumane and expensive industries in America.
“Victims of Misfortune will boldly confront the problems of America’s criminal justice system and the devastating impact it has left on poor communities, mostly people of African and Latino descent. This documentary will also provide valuable solutions to help those people returning back to society from prison.”
“We passionately want to make an unfiltered, social documentary with the criminal justice system as a backdrop, and we believe spending over $68 Billion on prisons is draining the American economy. We are very confident that this documentary will create a call to action.” said Levon Hinton.
‘Victims of Misfortune’ is an independent film and as such, for its financing it’s using the huge power of the public’s involvement given by the web, by creating a movement where hundreds of people can participate in the documentary through crowd funding. One of the goals of the documentary is to increase people’s awareness of the problems of America’s criminal justice system. “It’s important for everyone to participate. Crowd funding gives us a chance to create an avenue for people, who want to be part of this groundbreaking documentary,”
Besides the amount that each person can invest, for Levon, simply participating means that he achieved getting people involved and sharing the project with someone else. “With this campaign, not only will we be able to complete the production phase, we will also have created a community of people who feel that this film is also their film.” continues Levon.
The team has set the goal of raising $7,500 on Indiegogo to film several of the remaining interviews.
Crowdfunding support will go specifically toward travel expenses, equipment rentals and the creation of the movie trailer. The funds raised will help the film go from the ‘production phase’ to ‘post production phase’.
